I've always found the Java based NetBeans or eclipse to be too resource hungry. Notepad++ is good on windows.

I just discovered TextWrangler on OS X ... very impressive free programmer's editor with some good Python support.

Re: What IDE/editor do you use?
I've now settled down with geany as my ide. Eventually I'll probably move again but geany is great, many supported languages, lightweight, and works fine without any tinkering. Eric and SPE are good but some configuration options and bugs (that I'm to lazy to fix) are keeping me away from those. Vim... It's nice and I use it for quick file editing but it needs configuring to get it the way I want it. (pico looks nice but I don't see any real good differences between it and gvim) I'd go and get vim configured, but I still don't really know a language so that comes first. Once I have some experiance with python I'll try configing vim again.

I use Wing IDE. It's great for Python coding with Pygame. There's the free one, Wing IDE 101, which has limited features, and the Personal and Professional one. I got the Personal version; it works great!
